BIG BREKKIE AND CHRISTIAN AID WEEK: 13 - 19 MAY 2018
It was great that so many wonderful Shoreham-by-Sea residents, stores and companies came together to make the 2018 Christian Aid Week one of the best ever The collection focussed on the situation in Haiti which had been devastated by a combination of earthquakes and Hurricane Matthew.
The money that was raised will be used to fund training in construction skills for many local builders enabling them to build secure, comfortable homes, giving the Haitians safer places to weather future disasters and provide a chance for a better life.
During Christian Aid Week many of the fellowship of the Church of the Good Shepherd delivered the envelopes to the roads on the Beach. The generosity of our neighbourhood was heart-warming and the weather was kind to the collectors.
Christian Aid week started with The Big Brekkie in the Church Hall on Saturday 12th May which fed over 150 people and raised over £800. The House to House collection on Shoreham Beach raised a total £1512.59 including Gift Aid.
At the Big Brekkie Mark Johnson, the Sussex Christian Aid co-ordinator, spoke about Christian Aid's work around the World. Tim Loughton MP also attended the event, enjoying a bacon butty before moving on to East street for his Surgery!
Many thanks to everyone who was involved in any way but especially to our Shoreham Beach community for their generosity and support. We hope to see you at the Big Brekkie 2019 !!
