Second Sunday of Lent

5th March 2023

Our usual first Sunday of the month all age service is delayed until later in the month, on Mothering Sunday. This Sunday’s 10am service will be a regular Parish Communion, and our Sealights group will be running in the hall.

The Lent groups are now underway and going well. We have five groups running across the benefice, and many other people are following the material independently.

This Sunday we have a Taizé for Healing service with a special theme for Lent – desert spirituality. We hope you can join us as we journey through Lent.

Collect

Almighty God,

by the prayer and discipline of Lent

may we enter into the mystery of Christ’s sufferings,

and by following in his Way

come to share in his glory;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings

Genesis 12.1-4a, Psalm 121, Romans 4.1-5,13-17, John 3.1-17

Sealights meets in the hall this Sunday. Thanks to Louise Durrant for leading it this week.

Taizé for Healing, 5th March 6pm

Wheelchair for Annet

Many of you will have met my friend and colleague Daniel from Uganda whilst he was staying on Shoreham Beach with Terry and Julia and when he spoke at a recent 10.00am service here. Whilst with us, Daniel mentioned a woman in their community back home, called Annet whom his wife and he know well. She is in her 30's and, due to deformity in her legs, can only move around in her home whilst sitting on the floor.  He mentioned her need for a wheelchair to enable her to go out of the house. One of our members, Dr Jackie, was able to provide Daniel with a wheelchair to take back to Uganda with him - see photo. It will cost £150.00 to do so. Already £30.00 has been donated. If you would be willing to make a donation to help speed this wheelchair to Annet, please see Julia or me. Thank you! Apparently, when Annet heard that Daniel hoped to bring back a wheelchair for her, she shed tears of happiness that people cared.  Canon Tony

A message from Daisy Thank you very much for the kind ‘farewell’ in the church on Sunday. The blessing was lovely and the cheque was really generous. Thanks to everyone for your kindness.

APCM Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting takes place Sunday 23rd April at 11.30am. This is for the election of parochial representatives, and there is also a meeting for the election of church wardens. Full details are displayed in the church porch.

PCC Vacancies At the Annual Parochial Church Meeting we will be electing a new Parochial Church Council (PCC). There are vacancies for lay representatives. Please consider prayerfully if you could contribute your time and skills in this way and speak to Revd Jane if interested.

Electoral Roll Revision This is the time each year when we revise our electoral roll. If you have been worshipping at our church for at least the past six months and are not yet on the electoral roll, do take a form and sign up. There is a notice on the main door of the church with full information about the electoral revision and forms are at the back of church. Being on the electoral roll enables you to vote at our APCM, and it is also a sign of the health of the church. Please speak with our electoral roll officer Jenny Stride for more information.

Some exciting dates for your diary…
