Harvest Festival

2nd October 2022

We hope you can join us this Sunday for our all-age harvest festival celebrations – an opportunity to rejoice and give thanks for God’s generosity and goodness in the natural world.

Harvest Festival Giving We will be collecting food donations (dried and tinned) over the harvest weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for the Shoreham & Adur Foodbank, in partnership with the Shoreham Beach Residents.  The food bank has especially asked for long life fruit juice, fruit squash, tinned vegetables, pasta sauce, tinned meat, dog food, washing powder and liquid at this time. There is also a collection of money for the local homelessness charity Turning Tides after the harvest services. Please give as you are able.

Collect

Creator God,

you made the goodness of the land,

the riches of the sea

and the rhythm of the seasons;

as we thank you for the harvest,

may we cherish and respect

this planet and its peoples,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings

Deuteronomy 26.1-11, Psalm 100, Philippians 4.4-9 or Revelation 14.14-18

John 6.25-35

Harvest Lunch We are having a community lunch after the harvest festival service on 2nd October. The food is being prepared by Lesley - leek and potato soup, baguette, and butter, followed by apple crumble with custard or cream. Gluten free available. The price is £4.50 per person and children £3.00, with any left-over money going to the church. If you would like to attend, please either telephone or email Lesley Ward asap to reserve a place. She will collect payment on the day. Tel: 07525 622662 or email lesleyskitchenltd@gmail.com. Please bring your own crockery and cutlery, to save us washing up!

The Pollinators Exhibition will come down after harvest, but the butterflies will stay until after Rosemary Wakeford’s funeral. Butterflies were special to her, and the family has requested that they remain in place for the service.

Saturday Meditation is on Zoom only (and not in church) for one week on 8th October.

Generosity Week

This newsletter goes out with a special invitation from Revd Jane, explaining more about Generosity Week.

We shall be joining in with the Church of England’s Generosity Week this year with a special Sunday service on 9th October. This is a time when we reflect on the generous God we believe in and how generosity is at the heart of our faith. We welcome Revd Andrew Smith, the Generous Giving Adviser from the Diocese of Chichester, who will preach for us. The church is currently running at a monthly deficit, and we shall pray that we can find ways to address this financial challenge.

Live in Concert 12th November, 8pm

Olwen Ringrose, who played in the past at the Good Shepherd, is performing at our church. Half the donations will go to church funds. If anyone can help with refreshments at the concert please contact Revd Jane.

Be aware of email and text scams

Some people have had emails claiming to be from Revd Jane asking them to purchase Amazon vouchers on her behalf. This is a widespread scam. Please delete and do not respond.

And finally…

A special harvest banner, thanks to Chris Diebel, is now in place for the Sunday celebrations.

Blessings and prayers for you all this week. I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (morning).
