Please note below that some of our regular services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are not happening this week.

Lord of heaven and earth,

as Jesus taught his disciples to be persistent in prayer, give us patience and courage never to lose hope, but always to bring our prayers before you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Isaiah 58.9b-14, Psalm 103.1-8, Hebrews 12.18-29, Luke 13.10-17

Pet Service We are really looking forward to starting the season of Creationtide with a pet service on Sunday 4th September at 3pm. It is followed by cakes (sold in support of the St Francis Fund) and refreshments in the hall. Please note that there is no all age service that morning, and families are warmly invited to attend the pet service instead that day. There will be a collection for the Dogs Trust, an animal welfare charity in our parish.

Newcomer’s Afternoon Tea at the vicarage Sunday 21st August 3.30pm-5pm

There have been quite a few new people join the church in the past two years. We haven’t offered any newcomer social events to properly welcome you all because of the difficulties with covid. Revd Jane and John would love to catch-up by inviting any who have joined the church recently to an afternoon tea at the vicarage.  This includes newcomers to the Tuesday, Saturday and Taizé services, as well as Sunday mornings. It will be a chance to meet other new people and learn more about the Good Shepherd. Please let Revd Jane know if you would like to attend by emailing her: bartlett.jane@ntlworld.com

Please indicate whether you have any dietary preferences (gluten free, vegan)

Ride and Stride Saturday 10th September

Raise money for the Sussex Historic Churches Trust by walking or cycling (or horse riding)  to local participating churches. It’s not a race, but a fun event. E-bikes are welcome. We take a leisurely route along quiet country lanes avoiding traffic. Jonathan Marshall will start around 9am from the church and will finish back in Shoreham by lunchtime, for a pub lunch. It would be nice if you could join him. If you’d like to participate, sponsorship forms are at the back of the church.

For more information speak to Jonathan Marshall.

Thanks to Bob and Linda Caffyn who have repaired and re-painted our window boxes in church, all ready for future floral displays.

Singing Workshop

New Salts Farm Tour Sunday 18th September, 4pm-5.30pm The 70-acre site called New Salts Farm (near the airport and in our parish) has been designated as a nature recovery area. The land was purchased by Adur District Council to protect it from housing development.  The council is now working in partnership with the Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust to restore streams and wetland habitat and create a haven for wildlife. As part of our Creationtide season we are having a church tour of New Salts Farm with Alistair Whitby, project officer for Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust. There is space for 25 people. If you would like to go, please see the sign-up sheet at the back of church.

And finally…

This week the healing ministry team went on a ‘Quiet Garden’ morning in Saltdean. It was a time of prayerful silence shared together in a lovely private garden belonging to Revd Kate Lawson, the Associate Vicar of St Nicholas Church, Saltdean. We ended the morning with a shared agape lunch. You can find out more about the Quiet Garden Movement here https://quietgarden.org/

We give thanks for the all the ways in which the healing ministry team supports the life of our church. If others in the church feel they might also benefit from retreat time in a ‘Quiet Garden’, let Revd Jane know.

Blessings and prayers for you all this week. I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (morning).
