The Fourteenth Sunday
after Trinity
5th September 2021

Detail from banners depicting the first Genesis Creation story.
Currently displayed in church and made by Chris Diebel.
This Sunday marks the beginning of Creationtide,
a church season that runs until 4th October. It is a
time in our church calendar when we might focus
on God as creator and sustainer of all life. This
year the Church England has the theme of ‘Home
for All’, renewing the oikos of God. Oikos means
‘home’ or ‘family’ and is the root of our words
starting with ‘eco’ like ‘ecology’. We urgently
need to restore our relationship with God’s
creation. The UN global climate change talks
taking place in November (COP26) are of critical
importance. Change is possible if we are willing to
act to protect the environment. One of the local
success stories is the sea kelp restoration along
the Sussex coastline. To celebrate this unique
rewilding conservation initiative we have installed
a Kelp Forest Community Art Project in the
church. The display of kelp and marine creatures
has been made by the craft group and others
from the church, including children and visitors.
Come and have a look. It hangs as a sign of hope
that we can live more lightly on the earth and
respect it as a home for all.

Collect
Merciful God,
your Son came to save us
and bore our sins on the cross:
may we trust in your mercy
and know your love,
rejoicing in the righteousness
that is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings
Isaiah 35.4-7a, Psalm 146,
James 2.1-10[11-13] 14-17,
Mark 7.24-37

Sea Lights is on a
summer break until

Harvest Flowers
This year there is an opportunity to sponsor some of
the flowers for Harvest Festival. If you would like to
remember someone special, there will be a list at the
back of the church, from next Sunday, for you to write
their name and reason for remembrance or
thanksgiving. These will either be printed out or read
at Harvest Festival.
Please put your sponsorship donation in one of the
yellow envelopes, mark it 'Harvest flowers', and post
it in the porch wall safe. If you prefer to pay by bank
transfer to the church account, please reference the
payment as Harvest. Chris Thompson
