Newsletter 30th May 2021

This Sunday we celebrate Trinity Sunday when we reflect upon the Triune God of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We hope you can join us either in church or by watching our 10am service on Facebook or You Tube.

Collect

Holy God,

faithful and unchanging:

enlarge our minds with the knowledge of your truth,

and draw us more deeply into the mystery of your love,

that we may truly worship you,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Readings

Isaiah 6.1-8, Psalm 29, Romans 8.12-17,
John 3.1-17

Valerie Steele RIP

Val’s funeral will take place at the Good Shepherd Thursday 10th June at 1.30pm with a committal to follow at the crematorium (family only).  Sadly numbers at the funeral are limited because of Covid guidelines. If you would like to attend please email Kay Haffenden kay@seaspraykw.co.uk

The service will also be live streamed onto our You Tube channel for those unable to attend in person.

‘At this time of sorrow

the Lord is in our midst

and consoles us with his word:

Blessed are the sorrowful; they shall be comforted. Amen’

Please note there will be no Sunday school 30th May when we take a half-term break. On Sunday 6th June the Sea Lights families are meeting on Beach Green for a picnic and games after the all age service.

Christian Aid

We raised £1677.39 for Christian Aid this year, a great achievement. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

Zoom coffee is back!

We are reinstating the Zoom coffee after the 10am Sunday service because a few of you have requested its return. Revd Jess will be hosting this for us. The coffee starts 10 minutes after the service ends.  Here is the link to join with your cuppa:

Good Shepherd Fundraising Banner

Chris Diebel is kindly making us a new church banner, featuring the name of our church, a good shepherd and lots of sheep!   For a donation (small or large) to the church you can have embroidered onto a sheep your name, the name of family members, or someone who has died and was connected to the church.

The banner is green and can be hung regularly during part of the green Ordinary Time liturgical season and on Good Shepherd Sunday. The picture below shows a similar banner that Chris made for another church. Contact Chris if you would like to know more. Email: chrstndiebel@gmail.com

Thank you Chris for doing this for us!

Celtic Evening Prayer

There is a new time for Celtic Evening Prayer – Wednesdays at 6pm on Zoom. Please note that there is also a new link.  This is a 20 minute service where there is shared prayer for the world. There is one Bible passage followed by a time of reflection. We also review our day using the Ignatian Examen practice. It’s a contemplative and deeply prayerful short service. All are welcome to join.

Lamb’s Tales starts Friday 4th June

Bible Art

This painting is more about Trinity Sunday than the particular readings. I was thinking about the image I did last year of the Trinity, and then about the way different churches represent the Trinity to each other ... for example you could have a church which addresses God as Father to the almost complete exclusion of Jesus and the Holy Spirit (except in formal liturgy), or the ones which concentrate almost exclusively on Jesus, or the Holy Spirit.

If we look at our own church, how balanced is our relationship with each of the Persons of the Trinity; and is it important that it is more like the triangle in the middle?  What about our personal relationship with God as Father, God as Son and God as Holy Spirit? Does it matter if our relationships more like one of the outer triangles to a greater or lesser extent? Revd Jess

And finally…

The children’s area is looking very welcoming, ready for the relaunch of Lamb’s Tales. Thank you to Daisy for doing so much work to make this happen.

My hours as Associate Vicar are half time and my working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also Sunday mornings. Please do get in contact if you need any prayer or support. Blessings and prayers for you all.

HOW TO BOOK FOR SERVICES

How to book for next week’s service,

6th June, 10am

This is the TryBooking link for booking places

https://www.trybooking.co.uk/ZTF

  • Click on the link then follow the instructions. Booking will be open from Monday to Thursday for the following Sunday.
  • If you are not on the internet and cannot book on-line, please phone the office (01273 440202) between Monday and Thursday and Sue or Jenny will book you in.
  • You will only be able to book one Sunday at a time. This is to prevent the same people booking every week, as it may be that more people than we can accommodate wish to come to the

service. Once the service is full, if you have been unsuccessful and would like to attend the following Sunday, please tell the office immediately (email or phone) and you will be given a priority place ahead of the Monday to Thursday booking times

  • 23 places will be offered (additional places are reserved each week for our welcomer, reader, intercessor, musician, sacristan and livestream technician). It may be that there are still places left after the booking times of Monday to Thursday. In this case anyone can book a place on Friday/ Saturday.
