She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, ‘If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.’ Mark 5.27-28.

I was thinking about how this woman must have been feeling, how low her self-esteem must have been; because of her constant bleeding she would have been 'unclean'. I wanted to show the intensity of her desire to be healed. It seems as though the intensity of her desire, and of her belief, drew an extra amount of power from Jesus; like a conduit of some kind?

Why was it important to Jesus that he knew who had touched him? Was it that he knew that not only did she have to be healed physically, but that she would also need healing from the effects of such a long period of being socially ostracised - untouchable even by a husband, and that therefore his words to her were also important?

Apart from her needs, there was also the need of the disciples to understand what was going on, and from their understanding, our understanding also.

Revd Steve will be ordained priest on Tuesday June 29th at 7pm by Bishop Ruth at St Peter’s Henfield. Although we cannot all go to support him in person you can watch the service using the following link: https://m.facebook.com/St.Peter.Henfield/.

On Wednesday June 30th at 7pm he will preside at the Eucharist for the first time at St Mary’s, and his first Eucharist at the Good Shepherd will be July 11th. We hold Steve and his fellow deacons in our prayers as they prepare for this most significant step in their ministries.

Duck Race

We are joining St Mary de Haura for a summer duck race to rasie funds for both churches. We have 300 Good Shepherd ducks to sponsor. There will be a stall at the church fayre with sponsorship forms. We do hope you can come along on the day to watch the ducks.

Good Shepherd Banner

So far this has raised £400, and still counting. Many thanks to Chris Diebel for her creative work.

This is now being offered again in the side chapel after the 10am Sunday service.
