The Third Sunday of Epiphany, 24th January 2021

Our Collect for this week, the Third Sunday of Epiphany, reminds us that Jesus proclaimed release for the captives. Perhaps you feel like a captive at the moment after many weeks and months of lockdown conditions. We are assured in this prayer that our deepest hope is to be found in Christ, who anoints us with the Holy Spirit and sets us free.  The Holy Spirit is a liberating spirit. Even when we might feel that we are held captive in our daily lives, we can experience the full freedom of God in prayer and contemplation. Let us stay close to that promise at this time. And let us look out for the signs of liberation from the pandemic breaking into our world and give thanks and encouragement whenever we see it. Remember that the church remains open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm for individual prayer. Drop in whilst out for a walk to light a candle and pray in the power of the Spirit that all God’s people will be set free to sing songs of praise.

Collect

God of all mercy,

your Son proclaimed good news to the poor,

release to the captives,

and freedom to the oppressed:

anoint us with your Holy Spirit

and set all your people free

to praise you in Christ our Lord.

I have heard nothing further from the Society regarding collecting house boxes during the pandemic.  Please continue to fill your boxes/bags with loose change or paper.  More news when we have it! Chris Davies
