Sea Sunday

10th July 2022

We remember Sea Sunday this week and given our church location this is an especially important focus for us at the Good Shepherd. As an island nation we are dependent upon sea farers – 90% of our goods reach us by ship. For many seafarers life is harsh – long hours, sometimes dangerous and away from home for many weeks. Covid 19 has taken its toll, with shore leave cancelled. We will be looking at these issues, and how we can help, this Sunday.  Weather permitting, we will sing our final hymn outside on the church grass, within earshot of the waves. There will be a collection for the Mission to Seafarers.

Family Picnic on Beach Green on Sea Sunday, 10th July, 12noon-2pm. Bring a picnic, rugs/chairs. All welcome.

Collect

Gracious Father,

by the obedience of Jesus

you brought salvation to our wayward world:

draw us into harmony with your will,

that we may find all things restored in him,

our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Readings

Deuteronomy 30.9-14, Psalm 25.1-10, Colossians 1.1-14, Luke 10.25-37

Vivace Concert, 16th July, 4pm.

Sea Lights meets in the hall this week. New children are always welcome. Sea Lights breaks for the summer with a final session on 23rd July.

Church Flowers The flowers this week are in memory of Jack Evenden, Angela Tritton's father.

Blessing the bench At the end of the service, we are blessing a new church bench, gifted to us in memory of Joy and Paul Motte-Harrison, former members of our church community.  Paul was editor of 'Shoreline', during the time that Colin Blagg was our Vicar.

Friday meditation with morning prayer - summer season

We will have a summer outdoor season meeting in the Good Shepherd vicarage garden Friday 5th, 12th and 19th August (not at St Mary de Haura). We will meet inside the Good Shepherd if it’s raining. Let’s hope we can experience the joys of outdoor contemplation in August. New people always welcome to join.

And finally…

We have a church banner on loan to us from Chris Diebel with a dramatic sea image, very suitable for Sea Sunday. Thank you, Chris, for sharing your quilting art with us.

I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings.

Blessings and prayers for you all this week. Revd Jane
