The porch of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Shoreham Beach

Resuming worship in church is a cause of joy and gratitude! However, the guidance we have to follow limits us at the moment and some things will be different. As we return to worship and adjust to the ‘new normal’ we might expect a range of emotions.

Not all of us are ready to return to church and some might be at too great a health risk to do so. The numbers we can safely accommodate each week are smaller than we would have usually. For all these reasons we will also continue to meet on the internet so that we can include as many people as possible in our worship.

We have some guidance as to what to expect if you do come to church. There are also details about how to book into the 8am service on Sunday 9th August below. We are looking forward to seeing you, whether in person or on the internet.

Collect

Lord God,

your Son left the riches of heaven
and became poor for our sake:
when we prosper save us from pride,
when we are needy save us from despair,
that we may trust in you alone;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings

Isaiah 55.1-5, Psalm 145.8-9,15-22, Romans 9.1-5,Matthew 14.13-21

How to book for next week’s service, Sunday 9th August 8am

  • This is the TryBooking link for booking places at the 8am on Sunday 9th August
  • Click on the link then follow the instructions. Booking will be open from Monday to Thursday for the following Sunday. So for this week, you will be able to book for August 9th from 3rd-6th August.
  • You will only be able to book one Sunday at a time. This is to prevent the same people booking every week, as it may be that more people than we can accommodate wish to come to the service. Once the service is full, if you have been unsuccessful and would like to attend the following Sunday, please tell the office immediately (email or phone) and you will be given a priority place ahead of the Monday to Thursday booking times
  • 23 places will be offered (an additional two places are reserved each week for our reader and intercessor). It may be that there are still places left after the booking times of Monday to Thursday. In this case anyone can book a place on Friday / Saturday.

New opening hours for the church

The church will now be open for private individual prayer Tuesday-Saturday, 9am to 6pm.

Bible Art from Revd Jess based on this week’s Gospel

Art by Revd Jess

Revd Jess writes:

‘I was thinking about the creative bounty of God, with the creation of all that is reflected in the bounty of Jesus in the feeding of the five thousand from the two fishes and the five loaves, which in turn reflects the idea of the heavenly banquet’.

Shoreham Food Bank

There will be a collection point in the vicarage front garden (Kings Walk entrance) on Thursday 6th August. Your contributions are appreciated. Thank you.

And finally ...

Hands in prayer

Please give thanks and pray for the church this week as we make this hopeful transition into our next phase after lockdown and an extensive and historic period of closure. Do let us know if you have any concerns about the new arrangements, as they will be regularly reviewed.

With blessings to all,

Revd Jane
