The Sixth Sunday of Easter, 17th May 2020

Rogation Sunday is a day when traditionally people in their local churches would be out walking around the boundaries of, and praying a blessing over, their parishes. Never has this been so needed for such a time as this. The Diocese of Chichester is encouraging us to mark Rogation Sunday whilst taking part in our daily, socially distanced exercise, and have provided readings and prayers on their website. I’ve included at the end of this letter some prayers and readings to help you do this. You could even do it from your back garden, or looking out of your window. The children from our 10 o’clock Rock have their own Rogation Sunday activity too.

Following the latest Government announcements (10.05.20) about the easing of some lockdown restrictions there are no changes, as yet, that affect our church situation. July has been suggested by the Government as the earliest possible month when church buildings might open, with social distancing measures in place. In the meanwhile we continue to explore how we can best worship online and from our homes.

Risen Christ,

by the lakeside you renewed your call to your disciples: help your Church to obey your command

and draw the nations to the fire of your love,

to the glory of God the Father.

Afternoon Study and Fellowship Group

Finding God in the faith of others

Wednesday 20th May, 3.30pm-5pm We gather on Zoom to watch a talk together, recorded at St Paul’s Cathedral, followed by discussion. This week it is 'Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others’ with Episcopalian priest and author, Barbara Brown Taylor. She explores how we can encounter God in the faith of other people, and how our faith can be improved by the faith of others, even those with whom we fundamentally disagree. Email Rev’d Jane for the link. Note that this is a new link each week.

Ascension Day to Pentecost - An Invitation from Bishop Martin

In order to deepen our prayer for the people of this diocese in the time of this pandemic, and in the nine days of prayer that form a novena between Ascension Day and Pentecost, Bishop Martin invites you to join him in prayer each day at 12.00 noon, for around 15 minutes, in a live streaming of intercession, worship, and silence from the Bishop’s chapel, in Chichester.

He writes:

‘In addition to a reading of scripture and a list of the people we are praying for, there will be 5 minutes of shared silent prayer, asking God to hear us, to deliver us from this present evil, to use us for his glory and to bring us into the fullness of his kingdom in the perfection of heaven. Please join me, daily at 12.00 noon, from Friday 22 to Saturday 30 May.

Joining details will be on the diocesan website’. Our parish, Shoreham Beach, is being prayed for on Saturday 23rd May.

Finally I hope you are keeping well, in mind, body and spirit. Do contact me if you’d like any support or practical help.

With prayers,

Rev’d Jane
