Friday Club

Now in its 21st year – we think. It meets on Friday afternoons – we know!

Current membership is about 40, many of whom are collected from their own homes on the local community transport bus. During the afternoon, games, cards, entertainment, education and fellowship are on the menu and, of course, refreshments. Those who come on the community transport bus are taken home again when the club finishes.

The club makes links with individuals, works closely with community agencies, and both enables and provides pastoral care to older folk from the local community. Speakers, diverse activities and outings are arranged and fun is always available to be had!

After much discussion, and in response to advice from the Local Authority, we separated out the affairs of the Friday Club from the Church oversight. Friday Club is therefore an independent Voluntary Organisation, with its own Chair, Treasurer and Committee, and  a formal constitution. It still meets in the Church of the Good Shepherd Hall and many of its volunteer helpers (and not a few members!) are part of the Church of the Good Shepherd. But we know it is important to demonstrate that the Club has no Christian 'axe to grind' and is, both in terms of management and finances, entirely independent of the Church.
