                                details below

Posada 2018

Posada originated in Mexico;
it is Spanish for 'inn' or 'place to stay'.

In Mexico, at this time of year, adults or children
dress up as Mary and Joseph, and every evening
go from house to house, seeking a 'welcome'.

In our church, we too celebrate Posada
by taking it in turns to receive into our homes

a set of Nativity figures.

We set them out in a special place at the heart of our home;
then, after three nights, we pass them on
to the next person or family on the list.

There are sign-up sheets at the back of the church.

Good Shepherd Parish Christmas Cards

Want to to stay fit in December?
Then help to deliver some of the 2,750 Christmas cards -
with details of festive services - to homes in the parish.

There are sign-up sheets and a map of the parish
at the back of the church for you to choose
the road(s) you would like to cover.

Drumconner Care Home: Christmas Card Appeal

When writing your Christmas cards,
please consider including one for a resident of
Drumconner Care Home in Lancing.

You can leave them in the box by the piano in church
for Sheila Powell to take to the care home.
There, they will be given to those residents
who will not receive many cards,
helping to make their Christmas special.

More details in the December/January issue of ShoreLine,
on the poster in the church porch, or from Sheila.

Dolls Needed: A Request from Andrea Weller

As you may know, I work at Worthing Hospital.
We often have patients who have dementia.
I would like to have a supply of dressed dolls to give out
to such patients in order to calm them.

They do not need to be new but must be in good condition.

If you can help, please bring them to church
and give them to Sheila Powell.

Thanks in anticipation,

Another Reminder from Brian Wheeler

I have the technology to transfer video tapes to DVD,
and also to digitise old photographs.
There is a small charge for this service,
but all proceeds go towards COGS funds.

I also have responsibility for the
Book of Remembrance.

Please speak to me if you would like to add
the name of a loved one.

Flowers in Church: Sponsorship in 2019

The flower sponsorship schedule for next year
is now available at the back of the church.

Until the end of December THIS year,
please restrict yourself to one or two dates
so that as many folks as possible have a chance
of getting close to their preferred weekend.

Altar Servers at the 10:00am Sunday Service

The number of people able to act as Acolytes and Crucifers
has dropped; we would dearly like new members to join us.

The duties are not onerous, and these roles give an opportunity
not only to serve the church but also to develop relationships
within the church with both lay and ordained members.

If you are interested, or would like more information,
please speak to Judy Short after the service.

Adur East Lions Club: "Message in your Wallet"

The Lions Club gave us "Message in a Tube" for our fridges
which ensures that vital medical information about us
is available to emergency services
in case of an accident at home.

They now bring us "Message in your Wallet",
so that we are also covered when we are out and about.

They are available in the church porch for people who would like one -
for themselves, a relative or a friend.

Church Cleaning: Volunteers Urgently Needed

Pauline would dearly like help with the church cleaning
which she had previously been doing almost single-handedly.

Some volunteers have kindly come forward,
but more are needed.

Ideally, she would like to hear from people prepared to
form teams of two for the cleaning of church and vestry
one week every month.

If you can help, please speak to her -
and make her a very happy bunny!

Craft and Fellowship Group: Appeal for Materials

The Craft and Fellowship Group need:

  • buttons
  • wool
  • embroidery silks
  • ribbons
  • remnants of material/lining material

If you are able to provide any of these items, we will be very grateful.

Please speak to Sheila or Angela

Christingle Service: 4:00pm, Sunday, 16-DEC    at St Mary de Haura

Everyone is very welcome to this service.

Please note that there will NOT be a Christingle Service
at the Church of the Good Shepherd this year;
apologies for any disappointment.
The service needs both a rethink and a relaunch.

We plan to come back next year with something new
that will build on our work with families.

Town Carol Service: 5:00pm, Monday, 24-DEC    at St Mary de Haura

The Christmas Eve Carol Service is always popular with town residents. As usual, tickets will be issued to avoid overcrowding.

These will be restricted to four per family; members of both congregations will receive priority.

Although the tickets are now on general release,
it may still be possible to obtain them.
Please contact the Parish Office:

01273 440202    :    smdh.office[@]gmail.com

Tickets will be delivered to the Good Shepherd for distribution.

The rota for 2018 is on the clipboard at the back of the church. If you find that your preferred date is already taken, we suggest that you explore the possibility of a 'joint sponsorship' for that weekend.
